Hi i am flying to Eire for a couple of days on Monday, anyone know if i can take walking stick on the plane i can fold it prior to getting on the plane, i may be able to manage without, but as its a fair walk to the dept gate at Luton/London airport i just might.
Anne-m xxx Helping my cousin return my auntie back to Eire (she has early signs of Alzheimer's) bless her. I will visiting Mum/Dad and taking all the family gifts also.

Hi Anne-Marie,
I'm not certain about this, but in the lists of things not allowed on a plane I have never seen walking sticks mentioned. I had a walking stick folded up in my hand luggage when we went to Canada recently and it got through all the security checks and onto the plane. Is there a help desk at the airport you could ring just to check?

I`ve never had a problem taking my stick - our last few flights have been with either Easyjet or Jet2, and they`re happy to let me use the stick until I`m seated, then it`s put in the overhead rack until we land. It`s not a folding one. It has to go through the X-ray machine, but I just collect it at the other end. Kathleen x

Hi Anne- Marie, I took my walking stick through the airport going to Majorca and back. It does fold, but it's too much messing about with my hands to fold it up so they just took it off me and it went through the x ray machine separately from everything else.

Have a lovely time. You won't have a problem with your folding stick. I have been on a few planes and I use it till I go through the security and just lay it in a tray whilst I walk through.

Hope you have a great time, Anne-Marie. We don't want to read anything in the papers about you being drunk and incapable after a few froths of Guiness! Take care xxx
